Morten Scheibye-Knudsen

Research Interest:

Dr. Morten Scheibye-Knudsen research focuses on brain aging. Using neurodegenerative DNA repair disorders as models we have found that DNA damage in the brain leads to activation of PARP1, a DNA damage response enzyme that attenuates the activity of the longevity factor SIRT1. This leads to mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic alterations that can be rescued using PARP inhibitors, NAD precursor supplementation or treatment with ketone bodies.
