Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. Cystic fibrosis affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices. It is an inherited disease characterized by the buildup of thick, sticky mucus that can damage many of the body's organs.
